Abstract

The integrated monitoring of surface deformation and mass changes using GNSS, InSAR, and gravimetry was part of a more comprehensive monitoring concept during a hydraulic stimulation experiment in the context of the geothermal pilot-project GeneSys in Hanover. The geodetic observations confirm the assumption that no measurable signals were caused by the water injection at about 3 700 m depth. They also demonstrate the limits of the used methods, partly due to the urban location, and provide valuable experiences for similar projects in the future. In particular, the combination of relative and absolute measurements allows a more reliable assessment of the results obtained.
