Abstract

Because the GPS system will allow the determination of ellipsoidal height differences with cm order accuracy for distances up to 100 km in the near future, geoid height differences have to be made available within the same accuracy level in order to determine orthometric height differences. The computing centres for the European geoid determination specify the strategies currently under investigation (least squares collocation, spectral filtering of topography) and the requirements for the data (point gravity observations, astrogeodetic vertical deflections, satellite altimetry and digital terrain models) to be used for a new European geoid determination, with the goal to meet the accuracy level of GPS techniques. -Authors
