- Abstract
In 2004 and 2005, a new calibration system for relative gravi- meters has been established in the area of Garmisch-Parten- kirchen-Wank-Zugspitze. The key advantage of this calibration system is the large gravity range of up to 528mGal with short transport time allowing the highly accurate calibration ofScintrex relative gravity meters. Monthly calibration experiments have been carried out in a time series of almost two years to test the temporal variability of absolute gravity values. A large part of the observed variations can be assigned to gravitative effects of environmental mass changes (foremost snow). The time series was used for analyzing the characteristics of the used relative gravity meters. The attained experience from the establishment of this relative gravity meter calibrating system along with the analysis of the time series of calibrating experiments are described and discussed. A further utilization of the calibrating system is encouraged.
